Data sources
Every listing is assembled from primary sources: the federal provider registry for identity, and each chain's own published store information for hours. Nothing is copied from other directories or map services.
Identity: NPPES (CMS)
The National Plan and Provider Enumeration System, published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, assigns every US pharmacy a National Provider Identifier (NPI). We load the monthly full file and the weekly updates, keep organisations with a pharmacy taxonomy code (NUCC 3336xxxxxX), use the practice location address (never the mailing address), and drop deactivated records. NPPES is public-domain federal data.
Hours and phone numbers: the pharmacies themselves
Opening hours, lunch breaks, 24-hour status, holiday hours and pharmacy-counter phone numbers are read from each chain's own store locator, store by store, and refreshed on a rolling schedule:
- Walgreens / Duane Reade — walgreens.com store pages, refreshed nightly.
- CVS Pharmacy, CVS in Target — cvs.com store pages, every store refreshed at least weekly.
- Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Star Market, ACME, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Carrs, Haggen, United Supermarkets, Market Street — each brand's pharmacy site, refreshed nightly.
- More chains are added as their published data is verified. Independent pharmacies show "hours not verified" until a primary source for their schedule is available; their address and phone come from NPPES.
Each pharmacy page states its hours source and the date of the last successful check.
What we deliberately do not use
Google Maps / Places, Yelp and similar services, whose terms forbid storing or re-publishing their data, and third-party "store list" datasets of unknown origin.
